FEAR VERSUS CREATIVITY

Hang-ups about creativity can reach far back into our childhood: parents, teachers and social pressures can all too easily squelch a child’s imagination which is now your imagination and your creativity. Fear is in the way.

We adopt a self-definition that excludes even the possibility that we are creative. I believe that everyone (and I mean everyone) is creative. Sometimes they see themselves as too rational, or too practical, to be creative and they might say things like, “I don’t have a creative bone in my body.”

Our ‘creative self’ trusts the process and is not stuck on the outcome. With uncertainty, curiosity, stumbling one foot after the other led by our inner voice we can create our own unique pathway of imagination.

We find wonder and beauty, new ideas and images everywhere as we allow our intuition to guide us. It is that hunch, that feeling, that inner urge that whispers to us to try. TRY! Just give it a try.

Creativity thrives on uncertainty. We cannot truly know the outcome of our creative endeavours because the end-product is often far more than what we had planned…it is better, bigger, takes us further, stretches us and could be beyond the limits of ‘control’. (that can be scary) Following your creative self takes you to amazing places!

“There is only one thing that makes a dream impossible to achieve: the fear of failure.”  Paulo Coelho, The Alchemist

“Fail, fail again, fail better.” Those are the words of Samuel Beckett, the Nobel Prize winner for Literature,

DOING THE IMPOSSIBLE

Doing the impossible means going beyond the limits of what you know you can do and are comfortable with to finding out what you are capable of. It is taking a risk -sometimes a big one. Growth comes from resistance (and being uncomfortable) and if you’re not experiencing any resistance in your life, you are probably not growing personally or professionally.

Whether its about yourself, your relationships, you as a parent, you spiritually or your part within the community, and even your relationship with your environment we can all make changes to better every area of our lives. If you find yourself at a place where everything has become routine in areas of your life, and you are just going through the motions, you need to set yourself up to be challenged.

Challenge yourself to get to the next level and you just might be surprised. Thinking 'I cannot do that' blocks you from a whole world of experiences....just give the impossible a go!

Soul Journals

What is a Soul Journal? It is allowing yourself to be guided by your inner being and create a book that expresses through colour, shape, pattern and form aspects of your life journey that is important at this time. It is personal, unique, and uses a variety of art techniques to connect and communicate with deeper parts of 'you'.

Creating a Soul Journal is special because it is a work of art and a work of the heart. It is a record of your thoughts, reflections, experiences and feelings to keep; to share; to enjoy; to explore.

The creative process is enriched with meaning, personal meaning, which begins with the cover. Think about what ‘covers you’. Is it how you look; how you present to the outside world; how you see yourself or how you perceive that others see you. Is it what you clothe yourself in as an identity or something like a vehicle that you travel through your life in. What colours, textures and shapes do you relate to this. As the cover is how contents of the book are accessed how do you do that? Left to Right? Top to bottom? Is it like a wallet? Is it clasped shut? Do you need a key? Is it split down the centre? and so on….and then comes the back of the book. Working intuitively and letting your imagination lead you through, connect with what grounds you; what is your backstop; what gives you some closure.

“The most beautiful experience we can have is the mysterious. It is the fundamental emotion that stands at the cradle of true art and true science.”
Albert Einstein, The World As I See It
